Blurb

Bounty-hunter Matthew Macgregor investigates a series of strange happenings in the dusty Texas town of Blest where drought has brought famine and hardship to most of the town and surrounding ranches.

Unfortunately, that's the least of the town's worries! While the summer heat pushes the mercury toward further unbearable degrees during the day, the nights are haunted by strange unnatural creatures roaming the darkness. Macgregor, a former Pinkerton agent, seeks to uncover the town's dark secrets and tries desperately to keep his own past steeped in witchcraft and the supernatural hidden. At sundown... they'll be a showdown at High Moon.

Review

So I'm a western lover and also one for monster fights so put them together and I'm sure in for a fun night of reading. This graphic novel wasn't one of my favourite reads but to be fair it wasn't that bad.

I enjoyed the art which did a great job at setting the time period and keeping to the western cowboy feel in the story, even if it does steer away from original cowboy stories and throw in the supernatural fighting.

I felt the story could have been reigned in a little as I was at some points not sure what was going on and that with the lead character shifting halfway (which was a strong move which was worth going for) it led to some instability in reading.

Overall it was a pretty good read, as long as you don't mind pushing through some confusion.

Book Review, A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs

A Map of Days The fourth novel in the Miss Peregrine’s Peculuar children series By Ransom Riggs Publisher: Penguin Books Pages: 496 Published:  02/10/2018 I couldn’t put this down!  I have been waiting for this book ever since the last book finished looking forward eagerly to read what would happen next to Jacob and his friends. A few weeks ago I was so excited to hear that a friend of mine got a copy of a proof to read for his work. I then hounded him to lend me it and I’ve been reading it throughout the past few days enjoying each moment of it (he’s not even gotten a chance to read it for himself but let it be his loss as I couldn’t wait much longer).  The story takes off where the third book ended with Jacobs family shocked by the peculiar children and the adult stranger on their property along side Jacob who was meant to be going to a mental facility.  Jacob and the team are thrown into many new experiences in this new series, with new loops, new fri

Book Review - The World of Lore, Volume 1: Monstrous Creatures by Aaron Mahnke

The World of Lore, Volume 1: Monstrous Creatures  by Aaron Mahnke Hardcover: 320 pages Publisher: Wildfire; 01 edition (10 Oct. 2017) Language: English ISBN-10: 1472251652 Buy it here The world of Lore is the written counterpart to Aaron Mahnke's hit podcast Lore which has captivated listeners with his captivating storytelling and dark stories from history worldwide.  The world of Lore is a great book that reads just like his podcast meaning that you can practically hear his voice as you read passages of dark stories that leave you unable to put the book down.  I will point out that if you have heard all the episodes of his podcast you will likely have heard all of these stories read by Aaron already. Although even having heard everything already I found reading it all just as exciting as if hearing them for the first time again given the alternative format.  I hope that there will become a volume 2 of the series and would defiantly recommend this

Graphic Novel review - Quiet girl in a noisy world by Debbie Tung

Quiet girl in a noisy world By Debbie Tung Paperback 184  Pages / Published:  30/11/2017 Publisher:  Andrews McMeel Publishing   ISBN:  9781449486068   Quiet girl in a noisy world follows the life of Debbie Tung as she experiences the highs and lows of an introverted life. The book beautifully shows the experiences of an introvert struggling with social commitments and managing to work in a social workplace all while juggling friendships and relationships. The graphic novel compiles many short biographical stories over the range of three years in a loose narrative which leaves the reader relating with the writer as she exposes her perspective to these situations. As I read this I found myself in love with the story and relating to many experiences as everything went on and had to disturb my partner many times to show her what was happening. I would highly recommend this as it was such a pleasure to read and I think many people will relate to Debbie and her stories.
